چکیده

The accumulation of driftwood during heavy rainfall may block river channels and damage structures. It is necessary to mitigate such effects by periodically capturing removing from rivers. In this study, the behavior in open-channel flows with a relatively large wood density was modeled numerically. water flow motion were solved three-dimensionally, an Euler-type model coupled Lagrange-type model. Driftwood: Redefining Sound Sculpture Controllers

The Driftwood is a maneuverable sculpture that is both an instrument and a controller. Tactilely, it is a micro-terrain one can explore with the hands as with the ears. Closed circuit sensors, moving wooden parts and Piezo microphones are discussed in the design phase alongside background and musical implementation concepts. Electronics and nature converge in this instrument harmoniously refere...

Integrating local knowledge and science: economic consequences of driftwood harvest in a changing climate

The integration of local knowledge and science represents an opportunity to enhance the understanding of interrelations among climate, hydrology, and socioeconomic systems while providing mutual benefits to scientists and rural communities. Insight from rural Alaskans helped to identify a social-ecological threshold used to model potential driftwood harvest from the Yukon River. Information fro...

Utilization of Driftwood as an Energy Source and Its Environmental and Economic Benefit Analysis in Taiwan

Using standard methods for the determination of approximate analysis, ultimate analysis, and calorific value, the thermochemical properties of driftwood have been analyzed in the present study. The preliminary results showed that woody waste obviously comprised a large percentage of volatile matter at 72.56 ± 4.58 wt%. The molar ratio of hydrogen to carbon (H/C) was about 1.1, which was lower t...

Computations for Large Amplitude Two-Dimensional Body Motions

A numerical method is presented for the time-domain simulation of large amplitude motions of a 2-D surface piercing body with arbitrary shape in deep water. Based on potential theory, panels are distributed on the body and desingularized sources are distributed above the calm water surface. The body boundary condition is satisfied on the exact submerged body surface. The free surface boundary c...

Turbulence modeling of compressible flows with large density variation

In this study we highlight the influence of mean dilatation and mean density gradient on the Reynolds stress modeling of compressible, heat-releasing and supercritical turbulent flows. Firstly, the modeling of the rapid pressure-strain correlation has been extended to self-consistently account for the influence of mean dilatation. Secondly, an algebraic model for the turbulent density flux has ...
